Building new rhythms one day at a time.

Model: Karli Simmons by McKenzie Jean

Have you ever just wanted something done, without the process of putting it together or building it?

I’d skip the whole Rome wasn’t built in a day reference, but here it is anyway….

I, personally, am prone to avoiding big or daunting tasks. Tasks that have more than two steps in the process. For some reason it makes the whole thing just overwhelming to think about starting. This explains my messy room from childhood into adulthood.

To be fair, without knowing ADHD had a play in my ability to start and finish tasks, this overwhelm guided my habits and ability to achieve greater things for myself. I would stop at step two and say I can’t do this, it’s too much. I think the support of having someone help me focus helps a lot but what if that support is not there and the task still needs to be started and completed?

The challenge becomes more and more uncomfortable until we are able to just focus on it head on and break it down into attainable goals. There was a reason my mom always told me to make a list with all of my great big ideas swirling around in my head. Once you’ve got it on paper you can then break it down into sub-lists, and then sub-sub-lists!
